Canada’s Minister of Finance visits Innovation Boulevard to Learn about the Innovation Continuum in Surrey, BC

April 3, 2017 – Surrey, BC

An announcement was made at the BC Tech Summit that Innovation Boulevard has been chosen to be BC’s only Health Technology Accelerator, dedicated to commercializing medical devices.
Towards this, Innovation Boulevard is working with health authorities and the ministry to secure a technology adoption process for our companies so that we are able to commercialize their products in Canada.

The Honourable Bill Morneau, the Minister of Finance, Canada, visited Surrey, BC, on Tuesday, March 28th to learn about the innovation continuum from lab to incubation and finally commercialization via Innovation Boulevard. The Finance Minister’s visit is a first step for Innovation Boulevard to showcase some MedTech products that are “scale-up” ready, and ready to go to market.

Innovation Boulevard will be the only health device specific support group in British Columbia. We are based in Surrey Central, but have partnerships with other regions and organizations to leverage resources. Surrey is the fasted growing municipality and the home of 34% of BC’s population; paired with Fraser Health Authority’s coverage of over 20 municipalities and their wealth of data that is now being made available, we’re able to focus our attention on topics such as brain/mental health, healthy aging, diverse populations, and predictive analytics from big data.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau Innovation Boulevard Tweet“Canada can, and will, become a world leader in innovation and technology. Hubs like Innovation Boulevard are at the heart of that plan” said Canada’s Minister of Finance, the Honourable Bill Morneau.

Taking advantage of Innovation Boulevard’s partnerships with Simon Fraser University, Fraser Health Authority, PHIX, IDEA, and other experienced MedTech entrepreneurs, we are helping build investment channels while keeping companies local. Our technology showcase demonstrated the many achievements and technological advancements made by our companies. Investments in innovation are a win for BC. We are creating jobs, and investing in our people and economy to help deliver long term prosperity for Canadians.

“Innovation Boulevard is helping keep our companies local, while making an international impact” says Dr. Peter Payne, President and CEO of Innovation Boulevard.
