Dr. Joanne Curry

VP, External Relations

Dr Joanne Curry is Simon Fraser University’s Vice President, External Relations, overseeing a wide-range of activities and initiatives including university communications and marketing, government relations and community engagement at all three university campuses.  In addition to prior recent roles as Associate VP, External Relations and Dean (pro-tem) of Lifelong Learning, she led the development of the Surrey Campus of SFU at Surrey City Centre. During almost 12 years as executive director, she established important partnerships with the City of Surrey, the Surrey School District, Fraser Health, the local business community and all levels of government.

She was previously the executive director of the national TeleLearning Network of Centres of Excellence and director of SFU’s University-Industry Liaison Office. She has twice been nominated for a YWCA Woman of Distinction award and was singled out for top honours in the professional category at the Surrey Women in Business awards in 2010.  She has also held numerous management positions in the private sector.

Joanne holds a Masters of Business Administration from SFU, a Bachelor of Commerce with distinction from University of Manitoba, and a doctorate in business administration at the University of Bath, and in 2014, she received an honourary degree from Kwantlen Polytechnic University for her many contributions to higher education.
